Arrows beat Wits 3-1

A great team effort secured our first win of the season tonight against Gavin Hunts Clever Boys.

The first half was a level affair, both sides fought hard with their posession and put the ball up behind the defence as often as possible. This saw quick play from both sides with not much play happening mid-field.

We opened the scoring when Magubane took the ball up on the near side, played well into the last third. He crossed it to Lamola waiting on the far post. Josephs failed to intercept the cross and Lamola nudged the ball in to give us the lead.

Wits were not giving up though and only a couple of minutes later Mahango was denied after Gumede had an amazing save but they managed to equalise in a similar fashion off Gamal Amr just a minute after that to ensure the sides went into the break at 1-all.

Just after the break, Nkombelo scored off a good midfield challenge. He was fed the ball played up the left and finished with a fantastic goal to regain the lead in the 55th minute.

The home side gave nothing up and fought to find the back of the net again. They had a number of well executed moves but were just not able to find their target and get back into the game.

In the first minute of extra time Sibiya chipped over Josephs head to seal the win at Bidvest Stadium and secure the first win for the team this season.

We return to Durban victors but will not spend time celebrating as we need to prepare for our derby match against Amazulu on Sunday at Princess Magogo Stadium at 3pm.
