Cavin Johnson has called for calm at Usuthu despite guiding his charges on a second home victory at King Zwelithini Stadium on 20 September and compounding Absa Premiership champions Bidvest Wits’ woes in their title defence.
The 58 year did however praise his charges for their gutsy display in the 3-0 victory in Umlazi and ensured a fitting reply to the KZN Derby loss suffered over the weekend.
“We shouldn’t get carried away with ourselves. When I look at the game against Golden Arrows, I thought we played a better game. I think the boys put in a shift tonight (Wednesday), they really played well.”
“I thought we scored two cracker goals, really, really nice goals, the build up and Michael Morton finishing, and the one Rhulani Manzini finished.”
“I thought they both did very well and credit must go to the boys as a group, its not about Cavin Johnson, its not about Rhulani Manzini or Michael Morton, its about AmaZulu FC.”
“We know where we’re coming from, we know where we have to go to, we know how we have to build,” said Johnson.
Summing up how the boys in green and white ensured three points against the well resourced Students under the tutelage of Gavin Hunt, Johnson pinpointed the way his side held fort from the last line of defence.
“Don’t take anything away from Wits they were there but I think they didn’t get that many clear cut chances, the one they got from Kodisang I thought Mbatha did a fantastic job in dealing with it.”
“The first half we played a lot better, second half we defended better, because we knew they were going to throw everthing at us and we had to come out somehow. We came out and I think the goal by Rhulani was a result of a counter attack.”
“Credit must go to the boys, they played against a good team with a lot of quality and a lot of internationals in their team.”
“Some of my boys are playing for the first time in the PSL, some of them have not played more than 20 minutes, so I have to give credit to the them, they really put their hands up,” he added.
