MTN8 officially launched this morning

MTN in conjunction with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) transformed Johannesburg Park Station to a yellow terminal as they launched the 2018 MTN8 Wafa Wafa tournament on Monday, 30 July 2018.

The 2018/19 edition of the popular tournament will kick off on Saturday, 11 August 2018 when the defending champions, SuperSport United begin their title defence. MTN8 is contested by clubs that were in the top eight during the 2017/18 Absa Premiership league season – all competing for the coveted prize of R8 million.

PSL Chief Executive, Mato Madlala said: “The 2018 edition of the MTN8 is a call to our football supporters to bring passion to the stadiums. Passion is something that has been at the centre of our football even during the darkest days of our journey. We are excited to be part of this passion-filled journey and I’m sure it will once again create memories for the fans, we cannot wait for 11 August 2018 when we kick-off the competition.”

 

MTN8 Prize Money Breakdown for the participating Teams:

  • R 8 million             MTN8 Champions
  • R 800 000             Seven (7) Participating Teams

MTN8 Last Fan Standing Prize Money Breakdown:

  • R 8 million in prizes throughout the MTN8 Tournament
  • Last Fan Standing to win R1 million; and
  • A football experience for them and seven (7) friends/family to a football experience of their choice anywhere in the world

The MTN8 Tournament Dates are as follows:

  • 11 – 12 August (Quarter finals)
  • 25 – 26 August (Semi-finals 1st leg)
  • 01 – 02 September (Semi-finals 2nd leg)
  • 29 September (MTN8 Final)

  • Sat, 11 August – Orlando Pirates vs. SuperSport United, Orlando Stadium, 20:30:pm
  • Sun, 12 August – Maritzburg United vs. Cape Town City, Harry Gwala Stadium, 15:00pm
