The MultiChoice Diski Challenge (PSL Reserve League) will visit Ulundi this weekend for the first time ever, with the Prince Mangosuthu Regional stadium being the host.
The MultiChoice Diski Challenge has gone to different corners of the country – from Soweto to Seshego, Mdantsane and Hammersdale to mention a few. Keeping up with the promise made by the MultiChoice and the PSL to take football to the people.
This penultimate festival, the first ever in the history of the competition to be played in Ulundi, will take place on Saturday, 02 and Sunday, 03 February 2019.
This festival comes at a time when the Diski Challenge is at its climax. With just one round of fixtures left this season, all focus will be on the title race. This past weekend saw Bloemfontein Celtic move to the top of the log standings- leading the pack with 29 points from 13 matches. They are followed by Cape Town City with 26 points, the citizen were top of the log from October 2018 til this past weekend. Another team with a chance to win the title are Polokwane city, who are currently sitting on 25 points.
The youthful Siwelele squad will be chasing their first ever Diski Challenge crown after previous season disappointments but they will face tough competition from two clubs who are still within a shot of getting the title.
All this means there is a lot to play for this weekend at Prince Mangosuthu Stadium and in other stand-alone fixtures as the season nears the end.
On Saturday, reigning champions Lamontville Golden Arrows will lock horns with Mamelodi Sundowns at 10h00 and Cape Town City will play Kaizer Chiefs at 12h00.
On Sunday the two KZN based teams, Maritzburg United and AmaZulu FC will play the first match of the day, at 10h00. Free State Stars will host Orlando Pirates in the last match of the festival, kick-off will be at 12h00.
Entry is free on both days but tickets will be issued to supporters as part of access control. Tickets can be collected at the stadium’s ticket office on Thursday and Friday from 13h00-18h00.
Ulundi fans can also look forward to an exhilarating performance from the multi-award winning Khuzani ‘King Khuba’ Mpungose. The leader of the Blue Nation will thrill fans at half time of both Sunday fixtures.
