Minister of Sports and Recreation lauched Volunteer Copr

Minister of Sports and Recreation SA, Mr Fikile Mbalula   launched a giant Volunteer movement of sports in the country. The movement,National Sports Volunteer Corp utilizing sports legends , former players/athletes and coaches as talent identifiers, technical officials, sport administrators ,facility managers and coaches for youth development and Nurturing.  The launched held at the Southern Sun Hotel OR Thambo International Airport was attended by various former players and athletes from various sporting codes and leadership of Federations, former players who attended the launched were Doctor Khumalo, Simba Marumo, Philimon Masinga, Thabo Mooki, Humfrey Mlwane, and Pollen Ndlanya.

There are three types of Volunteers : Sports Legends, former players,/athletes, coaches and administrators and ordinary Citizens who have their interest in sports and in the fitness Industry.  Sports legends- All those sport greats that surpassed our expectations by breaking records, winning great accolades consistently in the play fields in various competitions that they participated in and those who represented South Africa with honour , grace and respect in administering or coaching in sport across the world.

“ The Minister Fikile Mbalula wished Banyana Banyana  a goodluck as they will be traveling to London for Olympics, Bafana Bafana  has become a laughing stalk even in a Parlament, they must start performing. Zambia is a good example, They beat all the big teams and brought the cup in Southern region. Bafana Bafana next year they must also do the same, they must have passion to play for the country not for themselves. He concluded.

The 16 codes that have been prioritized for schools sports in the first five years of the integrated schools sport programme are the codes of sport that will be invited to participate first:

  1. Athletes
  2. Cricket
  3. Handball
  4. Swimming
  5. Football
  6. Basketball
  7. Kockey
  8. Softball
  9. Boxing
  10. Gymnastics
  11. Netball
  12. Tennis
  13. Chess
  14. Goal Ball
  15. Rugby
  16. Vollyball

In October 2012 the Ministerial Bursary will be launched for talented young people after the school leagues would be coming to an end ahead of the finals in December 2012.
