Boa Morte will miss what would have been his first Soweto Derby due to injury

Portuguese International Luis Boa Morte has been ruled out of the Soweto Derby due to an injury.

Luis is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks after fracturing a bone in his toe during a Reserve League match against Moroka Swallows earlier this week.

The midfielder has since expressed his disappointment after learning the full extent of his injury.

“It (referring to injury) is part of football you know,” said a distraught Boa Morte, who was looking forward to his first Soweto Derby. “I went into a tackle and came off second best. This is a real pity as I was really looking forward to the match on Saturday. I’ll be resting for the next couple of weeks and then its back to work as I look to fight my way back into the team.”

Boa Morte has been assessed by the Bucs medical team who have recommended that he rest at home for the next two weeks. He will start with his rehabilitation thereafter. Since joining the club at the beginning of the year, the 34-year old has only managed to get two starts and one appearance as a substitute.

Meanwhile, the Bucs medical team has revealed further bad news ahead of the derby. According to a report from physiotherapist and long serving employee at the club John Williams, captain Lucky Lekgwathi, Rudolf Bester, Thulasizwe Mbuyane and Taltou Boubacar will not be available for the clash against Amakhosi on Saturday.

Lekgwathi – knee strain. Expected out for at least one week.

Mbuyane – right calf muscle strain. Out for between one to two weeks.

Bester – groin strain. Out for about two weeks.

Boubacar – twisted ankle. Out for about two weeks.
