The announcement of the successful AFCON 2013 Host Cities, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, 20 April 2012, has been deferred to Thursday, 03 May 2012 by Cabinet of the Republic of South Africa.
The Local Organising Committee (AFCON 2013 LOC) had invited bids from cities wishing to host AFCON 2013 matches. Eight cities responded positively and made their presentation on Monday, 26 March 2012.
An evaluation and assessment of the bids was done by the LOC evaluation team and ranked them.
The recommendations from the LOC were then sent to Cabinet for consideration.
The Cabinet met yesterday (Wednesday, 18 April 2012) and decided that an Inter-Ministerial Committee should be formed to further engage AFCON 2013 LOC on all matters pertaining to Government Guarantees and related matters.
The AFCON 2013 LOC supports this process as it is a clear indication and commitment of our Government to ensure the successful hosting of AFCON 2013. It has communicated the same to CAF, which in turn agreed to such a proposal.
