Four hundred and sixty boys between the ages of 16-21 registered for day 1 of the trials. The key point or main focus concerning the boys is not to be signed to professional clubs and not have any professional contracts.
The talent search serves as an opportunity for the youngsters to boast their skills to the coaches who are here, the likes of Shaun Bartlett, Craig Roslee, Tebogo Moloi and Arthur Zwane. The coaches looked for the best, the cream of the crop and those that stood out out of the bunch.
The coaches are hoping to select five of ten boys which will be considered for the finals in July, and these are boys that will compete against boys in the Capetown,Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and Durban regions. When the team has selected the tops boys in the mentioned regions, they will the compete in the final trials that will be held in Joburg in early July.
Selected boys will go through a number of testings, namely;spark training and GPS training. There will also be seven a-side games and eleven aside games. Only the best THREE of the boys will be selected to go to Barcelona and join 97 other boys that have gone through the same process of training.
“They are then going to trial with Pep Guardiola and a number of renowned international coaches. Hopefully we’ll have a South African that joins the top 16 which will go on a world wide tour playing against the academy teams of Manchetser United, Juventus and the U.S. national team, added Seruscka.
