Orlando Pirates defender Rooi Mahamutsa has issued an apology through the club website following his red card in the goalless draw against SuperSport United on Sunday.
The tough-as-teak centre-back was red carded after regulation time following a kick to Thabiso Nkoana’s crotch.
Speaking to the club website this morning, Mahamutsa said he deeply regrets getting sent off and would like to apologise to the team and the supporters, saying that there was no malice intended in his tackle to the United player.
“I would like to apologise to my teammates and the supporters for my red card. I did not mean to kick the player, my intention was to clear the ball and not to hack the player from behind”.
It was a terrible accident and I deeply regret having done what I did. I would like to apologise to the team as well as the supporters for letting them down,” Mahamutsa added.
Due to the red card, Mahamutsa will miss the Buccaneers’ league game against SuperSport United on Wednesday night and also the MTN8 return leg against Matsantsantsa on Saturday.
