Versleijen said, “I would like to thank the club for the opportunity afforded to me and I wish the club and its supporters the very best with their current challenge in saving relegation and its future.”

The Dutchman says he was not prepared to work alongside a technical director.

“With the latest turn of events where the club has appointed a new head of technical, which I do not agree with, I have made the decision to step down as Head Coach of Ajax CT.

“Further, I am very disappointed at the manner in which I have found out about this new appointment of Head of Technical.

“I would like to thank the club for the opportunity they afforded me, and I wish the club and its supporters the very best with their current challenge in saving relegation and its future,” said Versleijen.

Ajax are due to play Chippa United in a crucial Absa Premiership Cape derby at Philippi on Saturday night.

They are currently in 15th position with 23 points, behind Black Leopards on goal difference, with the Limpopo side having one game in hand,
