The nominees were selected by an adjudication panel from a list of more than 85 candidates comprising of sporting personalities, organizations and teams.
Mbalula was on his way to give Orlando Pirates well wishes as they were about to depart to Tunisia in their 2nd leg of CAF championship semifinals. “if any team does well, then they will find me waiting for them at the airport or roll out a red carpet for them” Mbalula explained.
He further explained on how the country needs to support its athletes and different sporting codes even though they will not tolerate laziness “We are at a stage in our country whereby there can’t be celebrating mediocrity but excellence, therefore if you don’t perform we will drop you and get someone else”.
This may have seemed harsh but it was said to motivate the country’s athletes to do their best at all times.
Mbalula emphasized on how much negative South African are “you said you wanted a South African coach but did not specify on the race and we gave you Igesund, but you are still unhappy”.
This comes about after our Senior National team Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for the 2014 world cup in Brazil.
