Clapham High School became the fifth side to secure their place in the 2014 COPA Coca-Cola® National Finals after a 4 – 0 drubbing of Rosina Sedibane Modiba Secondary School at the Central Sports Grounds, Mamelodi on Saturday .
Rosina Sedibane had to fight hard to reach their finals after drawing their first two matches before an emphatic 8-0 victory over Kenneth Masakela High School.
Clapham had a comfortable journey to the finals with a single draw and shock 10 – 0 victory over Indoni followed by another 7 – 0 impressive win over Highlands North.
It was then left to the final hurdle when they met their match in tournament favourites, Rosina Sedibane.
A brace from Thulani Cele and goals from Buhle Mfodololo and Mqhele Nkosi sent the Tshwane based side through to the National finals to be staged in October in KwaZulu-Natal.
A prize money of R60 000 is at stake at the Nationals and the young Thulani Cele is confident that he will continue with his fine form to help his school be crowned champions.
“I am happy that I scored two great goals for my school. I want to play for Bafana Bafana one day and I think this tournament is going to help me achieve my goal one day. I will do my best again in the finals and I am sure that with the assistance of my teammates and coach, I will help my school to become Champions” said the young striker.
The second and third place winners will also receive R30 000 and R25 000 respectively, the money will go towards the development of the winning schools.
