Gordon Igusand, It was a scrappy game

SSU Cocah Gordon IgusandSuperSport United coach Gordon Igesund labelled his side’s 1-0 win over Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout as “a typical cup game”

Igesund, who has now overseen three victories in as many games as United coach, was not particularly satisfied with the performance of his team, but happy to advance to the next round.

“It was a scrappy game. With all due respect to Stars, they came here looking to play high balls and not the best football,” said Igesund after the match.

“They play a physical style and they’re very difficult to play against.

“It took my players about 60 minutes to settle down and start playing the ball on the ground.

“I told them we needed patience – we were too eager to get into the box quickly, which played into Stars’ hands.

“It was a typical cup game,” added Igesund. “For maybe 25 minutes of the second half we played well, but otherwise it wasn’t the best performance.

“But what matters is that SuperSport is into the next round and we’ll see where we go from here.”
