David Mathebula and Gordon Igesund unite to lift the 2014 Telkom Cup for Supersport United.
They spent time together at Moroka Swallows and their combination was a bomb which almost won them an ABSA League Trophy. Today they united again to help United lift a trophy after beating the defending champions, Platinum Stars 3-2.
The game started on fire like a final game is was. Both teams wanted an early goal however Stars were the first to draw blood. United fought back to equalise which took the game to an extra time. 3 goals were scored during the extra time which resulted in the Trophy moving from the North West to Gauteng Province. It was a humdinger of a game which could have been won by any of the side. The luckiest team on the day lifted the trophy.
‘I’m so happy to be working with coach Gordon Igesund after spending time with him at Swallows. He is a motivator who makes you believe in yourself. He wants to win, he makes us want to win. I am happy to win a trophy after uniting with him again. The team is doing well under his guidance’. A jubilant David Mathebula lamented after the game.
