The player is thrilled with his move, and is particularly looking forward to becoming part of the Phunya Sele Sele family.
“I’m really happy that I will get to play in front of the brilliant Siwelele fans on a weekly basis for the next 3 years. I’m delighted to confirm that I’ll be playing for Bloemfontein Celtic FC for the next 3 years,” the 25-year-old said via his Twitter account.
Phunya Sele Sele, who finished the season in seventh position under coach Clinton Larsen, released the following statement on their website:
Bloemfontein Celtic continues to strengthen the squad in preparation of 2015/2016 league adding another valuable member in Thabang Matuka with a three year contract. Just like current Celtic top striker Lerato Lamola and host of others, the left back is also a product of Roses United where he was natured into a resolute hard tackling defender and gained priceless experience in the process.
After plying his trade for Maritzburg United for the past four seasons Matuka deemed it appropriate to sign with his home team and Celtic chairman Max Tshabalala excitingly announced the news: “Thabang has been our target. The coach Clinton Larson is thrilled that we have signed such incredibly talented player. He is a workaholic and his immeasurable work ethic and sheer determination will see him succeed at the team.”
Tshabalala added: “I have known him as a young boy and have been proud to seen him represent the country at the national under-20 and later on the under-23 level with such exceptional confidence. We are building an exciting team that will surpass this past season’s achievement and players like Matuka will help us achieve our goal.
“Celtic is a huge brand and having more representatives in our junior and senior national teams will obviously benefit the team hence it is absolutely vital to have more quality to compete against the best in the league.”
