Midfielder Oupa Manyisa suffered an injury scare when limped off in the African Cup of Nations clash between South Africa and Gambia over this past Saturday. The Mighty Buccaneers captain suffered a knock which resulted in a sprained ankle.
News coming out of the national team camp is that although Manyisa’s injury is not serious, the hard running midfielder could miss the international friendly against Angola tomorrow.
“Manyisa’s injury is not as serious as initially thought,” said Bafana Bafana’s media officer Matlhomola Morake. “Although there was a bit of swelling on his right ankle, the team doctor was scheduled to assess Manyisa at training today and based on that assessment there is a possibility that Manyisa might not play in the friendly against Angola tomorrow, he will be reassessed again ahead of the CHAN qualifier against Mauritius this coming Saturday”, added Morake.
Meanwhile, Orlandopiratesfc.com put a call through to Manyisa ahead of the national team’s training session this morning.
He said: “Angola is a good side and getting an opportunity to play against them is always good for us as players because not only do we get to represent our country but we also get a chance to play against some of the best players the continent has to offer. I feel we have a good team and I know the players that are here are just as capable of getting the job done for the nation.”
“Look even though there is a possibility that I might not play tomorrow, I am optimistic that I will be able to re-join the team on the field of play sooner rather than later because I can already walk on my own without any pain or discomfort.”
