Orlando Pirates have bucked the trend of the first round fixtures of the 2015 CAF Confederations Cup group stage matches by being the only club to win away from home. Egyptian giants Zamalek and Al Ahly as well as Étoile Sahel won their respective matches playing in front of their home fans.
A goal from an unlikely source Happy Jele was enough to see the Buccaneers seal an early advantage in Group B and earn the Soweto Giants a first victory over AC Leopards in three previous meetings.
Meanwhile, Zamalek who are also in Group B, left it until the 90th minute to earn a valuable 1-0 victory over CS Sfaxien courtesy of a goal from Abdoulaye Cisse.
In Group A, Al Ahly have taken control of the group following their 3-0 thrashing of Esperance on Sunday night in their opening group match on Sunday however, the Red Devils will be without the services of Hossam Ashour after receiving a red card in the match.
While in the other Group A match, Tunisian giants Etoile Sahel edged out Stade Malien 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Baghdad Bounedjah.
Second round of matches will be played on the weekend of 10-12 July. Orlando Pirates will host Zamalek on the 11th in Nelspruit at the Mbombela Stadium. Kick off is scheduled for 15h00.
