Egyptian giants Zamalek SC have arrived in South Africa to begin their preparations for their CAF Confederations Cup clash against Orlando Pirates over the weekend.
Zamalek arrive in Johannesburg and then they will take a short flight up to Nelspruit where they will be based until the match at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.
So who are Zamalek, and what can the Mighty Buccaneers expect from the team nicknamed the White Knights?
Zamalek Sporting Club was founded in 1911 in Cairo, Egypt. The club was known as El-Mokhtalat Club in the year 1913 and was named after to King Farouk Club in referring to the King Farouk in 1941, before finally settling as Zamalek SC after the 1952 Egyptian revolution.
Zamalek SC is one of the most successful teams in Egypt having won 11 league; 23 Egypt Cup; 2 Egyptian Super Cup; 5 CAF Champions League; 3 CAF Confederations Cup; 1 CAF Cup Winners Cup; and 2 Afro-Asian titles.
Team Colours: according to Wikipedia; the home jersey uses the original Zamalek colours; White jersey with two horizontal red stripes and White shorts. The away jersey is Mauve with two Yellow horizontal stripes.
The third jersey is all green, which was through history Zamalek’s colour for the away jersey. Zamalek chose the white colour because it is symbolised for peace and red colour because it is symbolised for fighting for victory.
