Mamelodi Sundowns fans are chomping at the bit as their teams returns from their pre-season for their first home appearance in the etv Charity Showdown at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday.
The action-starved fans have been following the activity of the club through media coverage of their pre-season in Mpumalanga, then Zambia from where they return unbeaten.
The team rounded off the preparations with a 1 – 1 draw against Nchanga Rangers yesterday having played a match a day since their arrival in Zambia, beating Wanderers and Zesco.
Mamelodi Sundowns, Jomo Cosmos, Tuks and Ajax Cape Town make up the four-team tournament participants in this Charity tournament which will remind many of the popular Charity Spectacular which was discontinued.
That tournament provided the fans with the opportunity to see their team back in action, and often an opportunity to showcase new signings. But more importantly, it also provided teams with a chance to fine tune their teams before the league resumes in August.
Sunday’s tournament will play a similar role – but critically, raise funds for charity during Mandela’s birthday weekend when South Africans rise up in their millions to make a contribution to the betterment of those less fortunate.
