Komphela is speaking at the pitch of the Somhlolo National Stadium, where the team has just completed their pre-match training session. The stadium will host the King’s Super Cup.

“We are expected to win whenever we play a match,” Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela stresses ahead of Saturday’s match against Mbabane Swallows at the King’s Super Cup. “Matches of this nature involve a lot of elements. The planning process includes the ceremonial aspects of the entire event.”

“We have done our preparation and we hope to play well tomorrow,” assures Komphela.

Kaizer Chiefs tackle Mbabane Swallows in the first match of the four team tournament, kick-off is at 09:30. Orlando Pirates take on the Swazi league champions Royal Leopards at 12:00.

Komphela adds: “We have been warmly welcomed by Swaziland’s King Mswati III.”

Media and locals had a privilege of watching the training session.

“We have history here,” continues Komphela. “There are various Kaizer Chiefs legends who are Swazi nationals, including Abel Shongwe and William Shongwe.”

Other Amakhosi players hailing from the Kingdom are Scara Thindwa and Ronnie Dube.

“We have also noted that we have a lot of supporters here,” Komphela enthuses. “We want to satisfy their expectations.”

About the upcoming Mbabane Swallows clash, Komphela comments: “We are not giving away much at this stage. We are at a stage where we are mainly collecting information.”

The King Super’s Cup final will also be played on Saturday, kick-off at 16:00.

Chiefs go into the tournament with a few players recovering and nursing injuries. “It is early days,” Komphela reacts. “We have a few concerns with injuries but, at the same time we have youngster whom when given a chance, they will shine for us.”

“We have been playing smaller opponents in practice matches,” the Amakhosi coach concludes. “This time, however, will face much stronger opposition.”

The match will be televised live on SuperSport 4.
