MTN8 to launch next week

Mtn8_01The build-up to the new Premier Soccer League (PSL) season is set to shift gears next week with the official launch of the 2015/16 MTN8.

All the details of the competition will be unveiled at The Venue in Melrose Arch on Thursday evening.

The participating teams have already been confirmed, with the top eight Absa Premiership finishers from 2014/15 set to line-up in the season-opening tournament.

The format of MTN8 is the same from recent seasons, meaning the top four teams have all earned the right to home advantage, with their opponents too already pre-determined.

It means that reigning league champions Kaizer Chiefs, who are also the defending MTN8 winners, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates will be hosting the four quarter-final fixtures.

Amakhosi will play the eighth-placed Absa Premiership finishers and MTN8 debutants Maritzburg United, the Brazilians are to face Bloemfontein Celtic (seventh), the Students will entertain SuperSport United (sixth) and the Buccaneers are set to tackle Ajax Cape Town (fifth).

Although the draw will be a formality, the PSL will confirm the dates and kick-off times at the launch

The opening round of games are due to be played in the first mid-week of August, just days before the start of the top-flight league on August 8.
