Enabling the dreams of the Nedbank Ke Yona team requires planning and consistent actions in order to achieve the goal of beating 2015 Nedbank Cup champions; Mamelodi Sundowns. “You cannot rely on talent alone! What you put in is what you get out,” says Bafana Bafana assistant Coach and Nedbank Ke Yona Team Coach, Owen Da Gama.
The success of the Ke Yona players will be determined by a combination of each player’s commitment, hard work and talent. The experience and mentoring from the coaches and technical staff is also vital in shaping raw talent and guiding the players. Equally important is the provision of an enabling environment which includes nutrition, life coaching as well as the best training facilities, such as the world renowned High Performance Center in Pretoria, where the Nedbank Ke Yona team trains.
“We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure our investment in the Ke Yona Team delivers the desired results. Going against Mamelodi Sundowns is like saving or investing for that thing which really matters to you. Similar to compound interest, the more and the longer you save, the more we train and guide these players, the higher their chance of reaching their goals.” Adds da Gama.
Since inception of the Nedbank Ke Yona Team Search in 2013, the coaches have been honing their skills in identifying, nurturing and guiding talented footballers. They are more confident that this year’s crop of talented youngsters will follow in the footsteps of previous players such as Sydney Masana, Maphosa Modiba or even Morgan Van Rooyen which are Ke Yona Team graduates, currently playing in top flight football.
Catch Owen da Gama, Mike Mangena, Shakes Mashaba and Khabo Zondo every Sunday on SABC1 from 14:00 as they take the young men through a journey of proving that anyone can be extraordinary when they have the right support.
