Rakhale strikes gold for Bucs in North Africa

RakhaleOrlando Pirates attacker Thabo Rakhale was the match winner as the Buccaneers came away with all three points from their CAF Confederations Cup game against CS Sfaxien in Tunisia on Sunday night.

Rakhale’s second half goal, a superbly taken chip, was enough to settle a tight game in north Africa and could prove to be a highly valuable strike, the win giving Pirates six points from their three matches in Group B.

The 25-year-old former Sivutsa Stars and Polokwane City winger was thrilled to have played his part in the victory, and explained to the Pirates website what went through his mind when he scored the goal.

“We got the points and that’s all that goes on the table. It’s what we needed and we’ve done it,” he said.

“Sfaxien gave us a tough game, they came at us but we were up to the task and I believe we could have scored more but like I’ve already said, the most important thing is the win tonight.

“It all happened very quickly; I had an option to pass the ball across goal but there was a defender…at that moment I saw the keeper off his line and I decided to go for it and I’m glad I was able to pull it off.”
