It will be another case of old friendships revisited when Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela leads his side into their first official fixture of the 2015/ 2016 season with an encounter against his former employers, Maritzburg United.
“We will monitor the players overnight. It is not easy at the start of the season to ascertain the fitness of the players. But, those that will be included in the team, will do the job for us. We are ready and looking forward,” adds Komphela
The Soweto side ended last season as Absa Premiership champions and will also be out to defend the MTN8 title which they win last season by beating Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the final.
It was Komphela who guided the Team of Choice to a first ever top eight finish, the KZN side having finished the 2014/ 2015 league season in eighth position, pipping Free State Stars to the last available MTN8 spot.

When he decided to join AmaKhosi during the off-season, Maritzburg promoted assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi to the head coach position. Niceties will now have to be set aside as Ncikazi looks to try and plot victory against his former mentor.
