Mamelodi Sundowns have put the disappointment of their first two official games this season behind them, and are focused on the future – and it looks bright indeed.
The Tshwane giants, who take on Bidvest Wits in their second Absa Premiership fixture on Saturday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, have been hard at work preparing for a new onslaught on the league championship.
The team is beginning to take shape, and new players are settling in well. Mogakolodi Ngele, known as a predator of massive skill, gave of glimpse of what he brings to Sundowns at the weekend when he scored a brace from set-pieces in their friendly practice game against Black Leopards.
Add to this the predatory instinct of new hitman Fiston Abdoul and poacher Cuthbert Malajila, and Coach Pitso Mosimane will be spoilt for choice. All the players were given a run during the practice games, including exciting prospects Khaya Shozi, Sphelele Khebesi and Ace Madisha. Shozi scored one of the two goals in the second practice game against Highlands Park.
Sundowns will assess the fitness to play of some critical players, among them Keagan Dolly.
But Sundowns know not to take Wits lightly. They know that they are as ambitious as they are. They know that the Clever Boys are looking for silverware, and that Hunt is desperate to bring the title winning mentality to the team.
All this can only mean one thing: It will be a brutal battle, tactical in the middle and comprehensive all round with both defences being challenged throughout. There will be no room for error.
