University of the Western Cape (UWC) have had a phenomenal Varsity Football tournament so far, having topped the log table for most of the tournament. Despite losing to a revitalised NMMU in round seven, the UWC are several points ahead of the rest making them the only Cape team in the semi-final.
Roen October has been a key man for UWC, helping them cement their place at the top of the table with some acrobatic saves between the posts. October has been part of the UWC side for three seasons now, and the BA student has gone from strength to strength.
UWC’s Thulani Mkosi has similarly been in stellar form, and the tournament has been something of a saving grace for the midfielder. Previously a regular at Milano United, Mkosi’s studies made it difficult for him to attend training there, and he’s now found a secure home in the university team.
With talent of this calibre, UWC are confidently looking at their first Varsity Football title and the home semi-final will be a great advantage.
