Free State Stars will be hoping to end a four-match winless streak

Thabo MatlabaFree State Stars will be hoping to end a four-match winless streak when they host Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership clash at Goble Park on Wednesday evening.

To achieve that, Ea Lla Koto will have to secure only their second league victory over the Buccaneers in the last decade.

Stars’ 1-0 victory on 28 September 2011 was only their first over Pirates in the last 10 years.

Despite their own recent struggles, Giovanni Solinas’s men will be encouraged by Pirates’ iffy form this season, with Eric Tinkler’s men having a rather indifferent campaign.

Pirates have won only a third of their 18 league matches so far this season and will go into the clash on the back of a 2-1 defeat by league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

With defensive duo Davies Nkausu and Themba Shabalala, forward trio Andrea Fileccia, Moeketsi Sekola and Sthembiso Ngcobo still sidelined, Solinas must again juggle his walking wounded squad.

It remains to be seen whether Ayanda Nkosi, who made his debut off the bench in the 1-0 defeat to Jomos Cosmos on Saturday, will start against Pirates.

Free State Stars v Orlando Pirates kicks off at 19:30 at Goble Park on Wednesday.
