Stuart Baxter, Its a difficult Job for Steve Kompela

Baxter_S1Kaizer Chiefs find themselves up against former mentor Stuart Baxter when they take on SuperSport United on Saturday, one of eight matches in the Absa Premiership this weekend.

The action kicks off on Friday night when the two university sides, Bidvest Wits and AmaTuks, clash in Johannesburg.

AmaKhosi play their third and final home game in the Mother City this season when they take on Matsatsanta on Saturday night. Baxter spent three years with Chiefs, leaving the club at the end of last season after helping them to win the Absa Premiership title.

The Englishman is now in charge at SuperSport after having replaced Gordon Igesund mid-season. Last week’s 2-0 victory over Tuks was his first win since taking charge of the Tshwane side who are in ninth place on the table.

The Soweto giants meanwhile are lying fourth, 10 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. It was always going to be a difficult job for the new man, Steve Komphela having to better or equal Baxter’s achievements. The former Bafana Bafana coach says however he respects what Komphela has done at Chiefs to date.

“It’s a difficult job. I am not blowing my own trumpet by saying that we had three good years. The club got some silverware. That’s never an easy job. So Steve comes in and every time they drop a point it’s not good enough. Look at the bigger picture and Steve has manned up for me,” he told Times Media.

Chiefs have won their last three league matches, while SuperSport have a win, draw and a loss in their last three games.

The first round affair between the two sides ended in a 4-1 victory for Chiefs. AmaKhosi have won four and lost one of the last five matches between the two sides in league and cup competition.
