The weekend results did little to change the dynamics in the National First Division, with the race for the title, for chase for top three play-off places, and the quest to avoid the drop, all as closely contested as ever.
The entire top five – Baroka FC (46 points), Witbank Spurs (44), Highlands Park (42), Milano United (41) and Royal Eagles (41) all recorded victories on the weekend, just five points separating these clubs with eight rounds of action to go.
Down at the other end of the table, the point Mthatha Bucks earned in a 0-0 draw with Santos at the Mthatha Stadium sees the Eastern Cape side out of the relegation zone (18 points), above African Warriors on goal difference after the Free State side lost 2-0 to Milano on Sunday at Athlone.
Vasco da Gama’s draw away to Mbombela United, Thanda Royal Zulu’s 2-0 defeat at Highlands Park, and FC Cape Town’s 1-0 home loss to Royal Eagles means that Vasco, Thanda and FC CT are only one, three and four points respectively above the drop zone.
Bottom-of-the-table Moroka Swallows are six points adrift of safety after drawing 1-1 away to Black Leopards.
