Fresh from being crowned Absa Premier Soccer League Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns have been thrown a CAF Champions League lifeline by the continental body when they threw out AS Vita Club after the Congo side were found to have fielded defaulters in their encounters with the Tshwane side.
CAF has advised South African Football Association that they would be re-instated in the Champions League, and would be included in the Group Stages Draw which takes place in Cairo this afternoon. (Tuesday).
Sundowns lost their tie against the Congo side on the away goal rule when they beat the Congo side 2 – 1 after losing 1 – 0 in Congo.
The breakthrough for Sundowns means that they will be back at work preparing for the Champions League instead of going away on a break following a tough PSL season, which ended at the weekend.
