The football action at the SAB U21 National Championships continued where it left off on Tuesday as Day 3 of the tournament produced some exciting football action at the University of Limpopo.
The host side is almost certain of a semi-final spot after registering their third win of the tournament after coming back from behind to clinch a hard fought 2-1 victory against a spirited Mpumalanga side.
Another exciting encounter that took place was Gauteng against tournament favourites North West. A brilliant volley from the inside of the box by Makhubele Tiyeselani saw Gauteng grab the lead at the stroke of half time. However, Thabang Tladi levelled matters towards the dying minutes of the match to secure a point for his side.
In the other group matches, Eastern Cape registered their first win of the tournament with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Western Cape that has slightly boosted their chances of making it into the semi-finals. USSA moved to second spot on the log after cruising past KwaZulu-Natal by 3-0 to end the coastal side’s any hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
The SAB U21 National Championships football action will take a breather on Wednesday, as the players will undergo the second phase of the Complete Player Programme as SAB continues to implement its objective of providing a holistic approach to football development.
