Alex Iwobi reveals the real advantage of Arsenal topping Champions League group

Alex Iwobi insists Arsenal have the best-possible chance to reach the Champions League quarter-finals after finishing top of Group A.

Lucas Perez’s hat-trick put the Gunners out of sight against Basel before Iwobi wrapped up a 4-1 victory in Switzerland.

The victory proved good enough to ensure Arsenal reached the knockout stages as group winners after Paris Saint Germain were held at home by Ludogorets.

That could hand Arsene Wenger’s side a favourable draw in the last 16, and guarantees a second leg on their own patch.

“It’s been a good night,” Iwobi told the club’s website. “I wouldn’t say my goal was a cracker but it was a great assist by Mesut.

“It’s felt like a long time coming and it’s always a great feeling to score a goal, but I’m just pleased with the team¹s performance and that we were able to finish top of the group.

“Having a second leg at home is a big advantage [in the knockout stage] and it gives you the belief that you can do it. However, the Champions League is full of top teams.”
