Ghana defender Baba Rahman has been ruled out of the remainder of the Total Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017 after sustaining an injury in the Group D opener against Uganda last Tuesday in Port Gentil.
The 22-year old was stretched off midway into the first half, and was replaced by Frank Acheampong as the Black Stars managed a lone goal victory over the Cranes.
“The defender suffered a rupture of the meniscus and a particular tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with fluid collection in the left knee. A Ghana team official will accompany the defender on to Germany on Thursday evening,” the Ghana Football Association said in a statement.
The news comes as a big blow to the Ghanaians, aiming for the ultimate at the flagship continental football event for the first time since 1982.
The left back, with over 20 caps was a member of the Ghana squad that lost out on penalties in the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
Ghana coach Avram Grant now has 22 players to choose from the remainder of the competition.
