Mamelodi Sundowns put up a sterling show to break down Bloemfontein Celtic edging them 1-0 at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium in the first of their long line-up of Absa Premiership fixtures.
Both sides started off brightly, with the hosts showing little respect for the African champions.
But within three minutes Sibusiso Vilakazi had the first opportunity for Sundowns when he was at the end of a patient build-up, and soon Khama Billiat made another foray into the Celtic box.
Celtic’s game plan seemed to be to try to catch the Brazilians on the break and they had several opportunities. Deon Hotto was kept quite by new signing Fares Hachi who was thrown into the deep end by coach Pitso Mosimane with both Tebogo Langerman and Mzikayise Mashaba suffering late injuries.
