Manchester United chiefs are desperate to tie down the France World Cup winner amid serious transfer interest from Real Madrid.
Manchester United are ready to make Paul Pogba club captain in a bid to show the French midfielder how much they value him.
As revealed by Sunday Mirror Sport last week , United have told the 26-year-old that he will not be sold in the summer despite Real Madrid launching a charm offensive to prise him away from Old Trafford.
And now they are ready to hand Pogba more responsibility by making him skipper – and will also offer negotiations aimed at securing his long-term future on a new contract.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a new leader next season.
Current club captain Antonio Valencia is leaving at the end of his contract and 33-year-old Ashley Young is expected to take more of a squad role.
Pogba, David De Gea and Chris Smalling have all worn the armband this season.
But Solskjaer was encouraged by the positive messages the midfielder gave him when they spoke about his plans for the club.
The United boss hopes that Pogba will regain his focus if he is made United skipper.
