Kearyn Baccus,The pitch was very difficult to play on

Baccus made his first appearance in an official match in the colours of Amakhosi in the 3-2 win over Highlands Park. The match was played at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.

“It was a great feeling to make a start for the team,” . “I am glad to be part of this massive team. I am always ready at any time when required to play.” said  Kearyn Baccus

“I was happy to be in the starting line-up,” reflects Baccus. “It was good to see so many Kaizer Chiefs supporters in and around the stadium. The supporters turned up in big numbers which is a boost for the season.”

Baccus provided an assist for Lebogang Manyama to score the first goal of the match. Baccus whipped a cross that found Manyama to slot home with a fine header to make it 1-0 to Chiefs in the 5th minute of the pulsating match.

“The stadium was packed, and the spectators were loud and cheering us on. I was very happy to make my debut. I didn’t perform as I wanted though. Before any match I try and relax as much as I can. At camp I shared a room with Leonardo Castro. We watched movies and had some interesting conversations. The coach told me on Sunday morning that Leo was  unfortunately struggling with an injury.

“The pitch was very difficult to play on. Also, we were caught off guard by their long balls. It was good to get a win and start the season with three points,” said Baccus.

Baccus was born in Durban and moved to Australia when he was eight.

“Another win this weekend will be key,” refers the midfielder to the upcoming home against Black Leopards. “My families watched on and were happy to see me playing for Chiefs. I wish to play in Durban. I will work hard. With more training and matches, I will get to my best.”

Chiefs will play their first home match of the season against Black Leopards on Saturday, 10 August. Kick-off is at 20:15.
