SuperSport United head coach Kaitano Tembo emphasized that he is happy with his team’s performance ahead of the big Tshwane derby Cup match against Mamelodi Sundowns.
The two cross-town rivals meet in the second leg semi-final of the MTN8 Cup on Wednesday night. The match kicks off at 19:30.
Tembo addressed the media on Monday (today) before the morning training session at the Megawatt park.
“I’m happy with team’s performance so far. However, the team-work in our last match against Cape Town City was not at the level we wanted it to be.
We played a draw, but I still feel we could have done better in that match. I can’t put a blame to the team, but I’m positive we will go into the next game with a lot of positives from the previous match,” said the Matsatsantsa head coach Kaitano Tembo.
The coach was also asked about United’s new signing centre forward Thamsanqa Gabuza’s superb performance since joining Matsatsantsa at the beginning of this season.
“Gabuza is working very hard. I’m happy with his partnership with Bradley Grobler and I think they will help the team a lot going forward.
We don’t need to rush Gabuza and put him under pressure, if he continues working hard that will certainly boost his confidence,” said the United mentor.
Tembo further expressed his views on other players who have also been putting some great performances on the pitch.
“I’m also happy with Kuda Mahachi and Aubrey Modiba. They are also working hard. Modiba picked up an injury in our first game of the season but he followed the right programme and he recovered very quickly. I’m happy with him, the only thing left is the fitness level, he’s not 100% yet. We need to be patient with our players, and we will get things right,” Tembo concluded.
