AmaZulu FC will take on Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership opener

AmaZulu FC will take on Orlando Pirates in the DStv Premiership match at the Kings Park Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 20h15.

AmaZulu finished 13th on the Premier Soccer League log in 2019/20, accumulating 30 points from as many matches and narrowly avoiding the relegation playoffs.

The Durban side recovered from a tough start to the campaign in which they failed to win any of their opening seven matches.

Usuthu’s home form in 2019/20 saw them claim 17 points from 15 matches as hosts, with just four victories (against Cape Town City, Stellenbosch, Polokwane City and Black Leopards).

Pirates finished third on the PSL log in 2019/20, accumulating 52 points from their 30 matches.

They were just seven points adrift of champions Mamelodi Sundowns, but effectively gave up their title chances with a lean run of six winless games from round 22 to 27.

The Buccaneers struggled for consistency away from home in 2019/20, taking 20 points from 15 outings on the road.

Their best away performance was a 4-1 win at Polokwane City in January 2020.

In head-to-head stats, Pirates and AmaZulu have met in 59 league matches since 1985.

The Buccaneers have claimed 26 wins compared to 10 for Usuthu, while 23 matches have been drawn. The

Durban side has claimed six wins from 30 home league matches against the Soweto giants, suffering nine defeats in the process.

Pirates took four points off AmaZulu in the teams’ league meetings last season, drawing 0-0 in Durban in August 2019 before a 1-0 win at the Orlando Stadium in January 2020, with Vincent Pule scoring the decisive goal.
