Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed his delight with the Reds’ Egyptian Premier League triumph, adding that his time with Sundowns is the reason he is coaching the Cairo giants.
Al Ahly celebrated their record 42nd Egyptian Premier League title following a 3-0 victory over Tala’a El-Gaish in the final round of the season on Saturday.
The victory meant that the Reds finished the campaign with a remarkable tally of 89 points, 18 points ahead of runner-ups and arch-rivals Zamalek.
Despite taking charge of the club after the club were confirmed as champions, Mosimane has revealed his delight with the achievement, saying he will add it to his resume.
“Winning the Egyptian Premier League with Al Ahly is something to add to my resume, and I thank Mahmoud El-Khatib for giving me the honor to coach the Reds,” Pitso said after the game.
“I have arrived in Egypt with Al Ahly already winning in the league and I am happy that I am yet to lose with them.”
Speaking of his former employers, Sundowns, Pitso said: “Mamelodi Sundowns is a big team and there we used to take Al Ahly as an example to follow and praise them in front of the players.
“I wouldn’t have coached Al Ahly if it wasn’t for my successes with Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Before I took charge of Al Ahly, I have researched for some of their star players and found that some are still at the club like Walid Soliman and Ahmed Fathi, who are considered as some of the elites of the continent.
“Our main goal is to win the CAF Champions League and we will fight for it.
