AmaZulu FC defender Tsepo Masilela is looking forward to playing in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Derby clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows on Wednesday.
The two teams are set to meet in the DStv Premiership match at the Jonsson Kings Park Stadium in Durban with Usuthu having appointed Benni McCarthy as their new head coach.
“The preparations are going well. So far so good, the guys are looking good. We are welcoming back some guys from their [respective] injuries,” Masilela said.
“So, the competition is there. As you said it a big game, but nowadays every game is a big game.
“It’s a home game for us. We would like to take all three points. We all know it is a derby, but like I said we are at home and we are looking forward to it and we are excited.”
The 35-year-old player feels that it is imperative for Usuthu to return to winning ways after extending their winless run to three matches when they drew 1-1 with Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in their last game.
“We have to give our best on Wednesday and try to return to winning ways. It has been a while since we last won a match,” he continued.
“Our last win was against Black Leopards. We need to turn things around quickly and start collecting points.”
Fans will not be allowed in the stadium due to coronavirus pandemic and Masilela said they aim to please the Usuthu faithful.
“Since the pandemic started fans are not allowed in the stadiums, but believe me they are always in our thoughts and in our minds,” he added.
“When we go out on the field we are always looking to make them proud. We are doing it for them. It is not like we have forgotten about our fans.
“I know they still support the team and I know they are still with us. We just want to promise them that we will give it our all in order to keep the smiles on their faces.”
The match between AmaZulu and Arrows will kick-off at 17h30 CAT.
